About Me

My name is Abigail Elizabeth Connor, otherwise known as "Little Miss Sunshine." I was born on July 10, 2007 at 1:42 pm. Although some might think that my adventures were about to begin at the moment of my birth, I had already had many adventures! This is my way of sharing my newest adventures and travels with my family and friends.

April 19, 2009

How could I have known that I would get to spend the next day with Grandma, Papa and Daddy! Daddy seemed pretty tired and was on the couch a good part of the day, but I played and played and played with Grandma and Papa. I talked and ran and demanded whatever I wanted. It was a great day. Mommy came home that afternoon with goodies from work. Daddy’s friends at work sent him a “get well” basket with all sorts of sweets and goodies. I had my very first twinkee and I loved it. Mommy’s team gave her some ready-made dinners. We ate one on Friday night, it was delicious! Grandma and Papa had to go home so we walked out into the driveway to say goodbye. We went for another walk because it was such a nice day.

I did not realize that more fun was in store for me. On Saturday morning, Mommy and I went to see Kristy, Teresa, Anna, Colin and Patrick. We played with Colin and Patrick’s toys (and they were very nice and did not yell or take things away from me that I might break). Then we went to a new park with different types of swings, a big slide and a climbing fort. After a quick lunch (it was getting close to nap time for both Anna and me), Mommy and I headed home. I took a long nap! Guess who was there when I woke up? My friends Mr. Paul, Lauren and Ryan! They brought over food for us and came to visit me (of course). We went outside and I ran and ran with Lauren and Ryan. They are so fun and so nice to me, I love it when I get to see them. Guess who else came when my friends were over? Nana! The fun never stops! Or at least it had not stopped yet. It was a beautiful day and Daddy needed to take another walk (I do not remember Daddy taking so many walks, but I think it’s fun so it’s fine by me). We all went, then we came back and played in the yard. I love to play in my yard. Nana sat with me and I swung and swung on my swing. Mommy went to dinner with her friend Kelly (the one who lives in Boston but was in town this weekend). Nana took care of me and visited with Daddy while Mommy was at her dinner. What a fun night!

Saturday night was not my best night. I was just not tired. I just wanted my mommy and did not want to be alone. So, I cried. I woke up several times and cried. Finally, Mommy does not remember when, Nana came into my room and tried to help. Usually, this would have been the perfect fix for my sadness. Not this night. I wanted Mommy. After who knows how long, Mommy and I lied down in the back bedroom. I was still not tired and started pointing out Mommy’s eyes, nose, ears, teeth and mouth. Of course I must physically touch the areas I am pointing to. At one point Mommy pulled her head away from me (I don’t’ know why) and I cried. You got it, she put her head back down so I could keep going. Then when I was tired of that, I started rubbing my feet against her leg. I would say that it’s her fault that she does not cut my nails enough, but she tried to get me to stop because I was scratching her legs. This also did not go over well. I have no idea how long we slept but I was ready to wake up at 7:30.

Nana was still there, which I loved. We all had breakfast (even Daddy, who apologized to Mommy that he could not help). After that, Nana, Mommy and I went to church. The rest of the day was uneventful. It was a rainy, yucky day so Daddy did not do as much walking. Mommy and I did a few errands and I did have a new experience, we walked under an umbrella. I was fascinated at actually not sure about the whole thing to start. While I was taking my nap, our friends JJ and Dan came over. They yet again came to the rescue because they brought over a “grabber” for Daddy. Now he can pick up all sorts of things and is much happier! He and I even played ball in the afternoon.

Luckily, I have been feeling much better and even though I have my cough back. I have my check-up with the doctor on Friday, so hopefully I will make it through the week with just a cold, like everybody else. Mommy said she needed me to stay well while Daddy cannot pick me up, or bend or twist.

April 16, 2009 (Daddy's Back Surgery)

I mentioned earlier that Daddy’s back was really hurt and he has not been able to do much of anything since December. His back got much worse in March and since he did everything else that could be done to fix his back, he decided to get the surgery. As I already told you, the surgery was scheduled for April 16 (Thursday after Easter). He took me and picked me up from school many days before the surgery, because after the surgery he would not be able to hold me for over 10 days. That is a long time for a daddy not to hold his baby girl! His surgery was originally scheduled for noon, but the doctor got an opening at 7:30 am which would be better, so Daddy changed the time. The issue he and Mommy ran into was coordinating me, because I am not yet self sufficient, even though I would sometimes like to think that I am. Luckily, we are very blessed with friends like Jana and Kristy who both were willing to help. In order to be prepared, they both met Daddy, Mommy and me at my school the night before. Uncle Dan and Regan even came (but Regan the dog stayed in the car, they don’t allow dogs in my school). I thought it was a big party! It was a cold day, nothing like the fun days Mommy and I had walking through the neighborhood.

Jana (otherwise known as JJ) came over at 4:45 am on Thursday. Of course, I did not know this because I was sleeping happily. Daddy and Mommy left and made it to the hospital almost on time (5:38 versus 5:30). The waiting room was packed! They could not believe how many people were there waiting to get surgery that early in the morning. Mommy does not believe that anything should happen that early in the morning. I woke up and was very happy to see JJ. She gave me breakfast and took me to school. What a fun morning! She knew all about my favorite spot at the table and helped me get to it before one of my friends could take it.

While I was having a fun morning with JJ, Daddy was going through the steps to get ready for surgery and was being put to sleep so the doctor could fix his back. Mommy was moving from waiting room to waiting room and trying to stay awake. Mommy heard from the nurses several times, which was nice because they always gave Mommy the status of the surgery. The doctor came out and said that the surgery was a great success and Daddy did very well. Mommy was so relieved and happy for Daddy! When Mommy finally got to see Daddy, he was pretty tired from the medicine but said that the pain in his back and leg were all gone. The prayers had been answered! Thank you Lord for keeping watch over Daddy and for helping the surgeons fix his back.

Back to my day. I was having a very good time at school and because it was nice weather, we got to go on the playground. To my surprise, Grandma and Papa came out to see me! I was playing with my friends until I heard Papa’s voice, then I went running to them. Another fun day for me, how lucky can a girl get? They took me home and we went for a walk (because it was a nice day, but I already told you that). Mommy and Daddy came home later in the day and everything seemed pretty normal to me. Except that it did not seem normal at all. Daddy did not pick me up at all, and he always picks me up. I am not always very nice to Daddy and yell “no” when he tries to pick me up and squirm when he’s holding me.

He went for a walk with us but he walked really slowly. Now, he does not walk as fast as Mommy, but few people do, but he usually walks at a pretty good pace. After we all had dinner and I got my breathing treatment (yes, I still get them two times per day), I went to bed. I wondered what fun would be in store for the next day!

April 12, 2009 (Easter Weekend)

The rest of the week was busy but I was back at school so Mommy and Daddy could work. Daddy, though was feeling worse and worse and even the pain medication was not helping. Friday was “Good Friday” again. I remember writing last year how it was good but I was sick. This year it was good but Daddy was sick. And since he had scheduled his back surgery for April 16 (the next Thursday), he had to go to the hospital for bloodwork (he hates bloodwork) and his doctor for a physical (but luckily no more bloodwork). Mommy and I hung out together for most of the day. It was really rainy so we played inside and ran errands, which is always fun.

On (Good) Friday night Jana and Dan came over and brought pizza, which was really fun. We are so blessed to have them in our lives! They can’t resist me, no matter what I do to them. Jana rarely gets to eat her full meal and Dan’s face is usually pulled and twisted by me. I just love them and think I show it very well.

On Saturday, I went on my very first Easter Egg Hunt. It was at the park we usually go to swing, so my biggest concern was that I wanted to go back to the swing, not stand in the muddy field with hundreds of other children. Mommy and Daddy thought the entire situation was very unorganized, especially when the two poor teenage girls who were supposed to stop the kids from rushing the field were unable to do so and the “hunt” started five minutes early. Mommy decided that we should follow the crowd if I had any chance in picking up eggs, so we sloshed through the field to pick some up. Daddy picked up three and Mommy picked up three and put them directly in front of me. I picked them up (since they were right in front of me) and put them in my basket. Mommy took a few pictures and we left. There were still hundreds of children and families walking in when we were walking out! We gave a few eggs to some kids who were late, got in the SUV (van) and headed out. I had a good time and continued to talk about the eggs for the rest of the day.

After I woke up from my nap, Mommy and I made a cake. I really helped! I sat on the counter while she put in all of the ingredients, then I watched her pour the mixture into my very special bunny-shaped cake pan. I had to stand back while she put the cake in the oven and reminded her of the danger by continually saying “hot” and pointing to the oven. After the exciting cake-making event, she and I went for a walk. The weather was getting warmer and I was thrilled to be back on our walking path through the neighborhood. We walked all the way through the neighborhood to the duck pond. This time we did not see any ducks, but on the way back we stopped by the horse farm and saw Misty and Little Lady. One of them (Mommy could not remember which one was which) even came over to say hello to us.

That night, Nana came over! I am always surprised and excited when Nana comes to visit and I am so happy that she comes to visit often. And guess what? She brought more eggs! The next morning Nana was still there! I put on a pretty dress and we all (even Daddy with his hurting back) went to church. I loved wearing my pretty dress and everyone told me how pretty I was in it too. It was chilly so I wore a pink sweater over it, but it was still fun. When we got home, Mommy and Nana made a special meal with ham and mashed potatoes (Daddy actually made those) and even rolls and green beans. Mommy felt rushed and wished that she had made a fancier meal but everyone else seemed to enjoy it. She even made tapioca pudding, Papaw’s favorite and something that Mommy had not had in a really long time. Nana left when I was taking my nap. Boy did that make me mad when I woke up! I cried “Nana, Nana, Nana” and was not happy until we called her on the phone.

Mommy and I went for another walk after my nap on Sunday (after I was really mad and had to call Nana). This time we walked past the ducks the first time but on the way back we stopped on the grass. Two white ducks swam all the way over from the other side of the pond and disappeared. You know what they did next? They came up the bank and stood three feet from us! I just sat in my stroller and did not say a word. Mommy was pretty excited but a little nervous so picked up a stick just in case they thought we were going to give them food and got mad that we did not have any. We watched them clean their feathers and move their beaks. It was the closest I have even been to a real live duck. After they went back into the pond I cried and cried and yelled “duck, duck, duck” all the way up the hill. If you know our neighborhood, you know that I yelled for a very long time. On the way home we stopped to see the horses but they were not there. I was busy looking for dogs on the walk by this point. Luckily for Mommy, we did see a few on the way home. Otherwise I would still be talking about those ducks. Every time I get into the stroller I asked to visit the ducks.

April, 2009 (Me sick again)

I had gunk in my eye when I returned from our trip. April 1 started a whole new round of illness for me. School called and said that I was not eating and seemed sluggish, so Daddy picked me up and took me to the doctor. We found out that I had pink eye in both of my eyes and seemed to have another respiratory infection.

The good news was, Grandma and Papa came to visit me on Wednesday night on their way to Hilton Head for vacation! Even though I did not feel good, I played and played with them that night. They had to leave the next morning, but waited a few hours to leave so Nana could come over to stay with me because I had pink eye and a fever and could not go to school. We were so blessed that Nana was on spring break and was available to spend a whole day with me. And even though I was sick, I love to spend time with Grandma, Papa and Nana so it seemed like a party just for me.

That same morning (Thursday), when Mommy was running (she was excited to work out again because she did not on our trip), she felt a weird feeling in her back. It felt pretty sore so she stopped running and hoped that the feeling would go away.

Throughout the day, Mommy’s back started feeling worse and worse and she had a hard time moving and picking me up. That night she woke up at 4 am because her back muscle was in spasm and she could not move her hand above her head or even get out of bed. Luckily, Daddy had some muscle relaxers for this sort of thing so Mommy took one and got a little bit more sleep. No, Mommy usually does not take medicines that are not hers, which should tell you how much this hurt. At this same time, Daddy’s back was so bad that he scheduled surgery. Mommy and Daddy were not in the best health for healthy people! And I was not in the best health either!

Luckily, Nana was still on spring break so came over to stay with me on Friday. Mommy was really glad because she could not pick me up because her back hurt so much. Mommy went to the doctor that morning, and unfortunately, all the doctor could tell her was that she probably pulled a muscle in her back. The way to help this was to limit activity and lifting. Hmm. Mommy probably could have figured that out on her own. Mommy cannot take anti-inflammatory medicine because her throat swells, so there was little she could do. The doctor did say that it was okay to take Daddy’s muscle relaxers. Mommy was able to meet her team (Jeff, MK and Lisa, Carol could not come) for lunch then headed back home. Nana left that afternoon and Daddy came home early so he could help with me. We were quite a site to see!

The weekend was okay. Mommy went to the Sharonville Easter Egg hunt because our church was handing out goodies to the kids who attended. I was going to go but I was sick so stayed home with Daddy instead. On Sunday, Mommy put prayer requests for Daddy and me at church. She believes whole-heartedly in the power of prayer and although she usually does not share our concerns broadly, figured that this was a good time to ask for prayer.

After church and my nap on Sunday, we all went to the zoo (not Bella). It was a cool, nice day and we had a blast. I really love the carousel too! I love how it goes round and round and I get to wave to everyone, including Daddy who are standing there, just waiting for me to come around again. I enjoyed it so much that Mommy and I rode it two times in a row! I was very sad when it was time to leave and I could not go round and round again. We also saw the giraffes, the elephants, the zebras, polar bears and flamingos. I know about all of these animals from one of my favorite books “Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?”

On Sunday night I was still not myself. I did not have a fever most of Saturday or Sunday so Mommy and Daddy thought I was better. When Mommy checked my temperature, though, it was 103 degrees! That meant not only was I not better (even though I was on an anti-biotic) but that I could not go to school and see my friends again. Because I was sick, “Aunt JJ” came over to stay with me in the morning so both Mommy and Daddy could go to work. I had a great time with JJ! Mommy came home at noon to get us all lunch, put me down for my nap and to get on a conference call at 1 pm. It was really busy but she made it! Mommy got me a doctor appointment at 5 pm and I had to get another chest x-ray and blood taken before the appointment. It was a long afternoon! Daddy met us at the doctor’s office too. Dr. Ringel said that the bloodwork told her that there was not some big issue and the chest x-ray showed that the pneumonia in my right lung was better but it looked like I had something else going on in my left lung. She thought this was all positive and thought that putting me on a “controller” would help with the lungs. I was not sure what this meant but was suspicious.

That night a nice guy came over and gave me my very own “bubbles.” This is what I call my nebulizer and mask. Remember the “screaming treatment” that we already told you about? This is the machine for those. Luckily, Mommy and Daddy were much better trained and after the first treatment, that night, I had no problem with the treatments. They also made me feel much better! By the next day I was back to myself, had a ton more energy and was jumping and giggling and having a great time all day and all night! My teachers said it was great to have me back! Daddy went over to school for three days to give me my treatment during lunch. I did not mind them at all and even lean into the mask (called “bubbles”) to make sure I got all of the good medicine. It’s not nearly as scary as it was the first time in the doctor’s office.

April 1, 2009 (The rest of the Murray trip)

I can’t believe that the last time we updated you was in March. I wasn’t even finished with my trip to Kentucky. Sunday was a rainy and cold day. We all (Me, Mommy, Nana, James, Chasney, Aunt Jackie and Uncle Mike) all went to the Cracker Barrel for breakfast. I don’t know why they call it a barrel and I did not have any crackers. I did have some good food to eat, though! I am a good eater, people are always surprised how much I put into my mouth during a meal. And I like variety, like Mommy does. Breakfast was fun, especially when Aunt Jackie and I were sharing some of her food and talking. She is funny and really nice. I got to walk through the restaurant (I guess you could say that I walked through the “cracker barrel” although I am beginning to think that this name is just a play on words because it did not seem like a barrel when we walked and if there were crackers, I would have found them and eaten them. Especially since I call many things crackers and they are almost always eaten). Anyway, people always smile and say hello when I walk by. Mommy loves this because Mommy loves to say hello to people and they are much more apt to say hello back if I am with Mommy. She is so sneaky like that.

After breakfast we drove (in the rain) to Aunt Ruth’s house to visit. I fell asleep in the car so when we arrived, Mommy, James and Chasney sat in the car (which was sitting in the rain) so I could stay asleep for awhile. Mommy figured that I would not be happy if I woke up after 15 minutes, but this did not bode well for the rest of the day if I was asleep at 10:30 am (as you probably remember, my nap is usually at 12:30). Mommy really enjoyed the time with Chasney and James, they listened to the radio and hung out, just like they used to. Mommy really misses spending time with Chasney and James, but was really glad to see what nice young people they are. I woke up after 40 minutes so it was time to go inside. When I got inside, there was a party! Aunt Ruth’s daughter (Elaine) was there, along with Elaine’s daughter, Crystal, her boyfriend (I apologize but in the excitement I did not get his name), and also two of Elaine’s grandchildren were there. It was a full room! I was not myself and a bit clingy to Mommy but had a good time playing with the Chinese checkers like I did the day before.

Uncle Mike and Aunt Jackie had to go back to Memphis and everybody else had to go home, so Mommy, Nana, James and Chasney picked up lunch (Subway for this meal, and it was a great deal! Those $5 footlong sandwiches are very good and quite economical! Especially since we had drinks and chips from Wal-Mart back at the hotel) and headed back to the hotel to eat. The hotel had a fun breakfast room right off the lobby, which was right next to the indoor pool area. We ate in the breakfast room, then I immediately ran through the lobby to look through the windows into the pool. You know I love to swim! After lunch we all got our bathing suits on (except Nana, she prefers to stay dry) and went to the pool. I wanted to jump right in without any help! Mommy is a bit concerned that I do not have a fear of water. I splashed and played and James and Chasney swam and jumped. Mommy even played the “jump and catch the ball” game with them. Nana is always so prepared, she brought small blow-up ball that transformed a swimming pool to an acrobatic adventure for James, Chasney and Mommy! That Nana!

James got some water in his ear and started to feel yucky after we finished playing in the school. We all got cleaned up and went to dinner (Wendy’s this time). James felt so yucky that he just put his head down at the table (which of course Nana told him not to do because he put his long hair into his shake). He, Chasney and Mommy were going to a movie that night but he felt so yucky that he did not go. He loves movies and he, Chasney and Mommy used to always go together, so he must have felt really yucky! It was time for me to go to bed right after dinner (there was a 1 hour time difference which I did not understand, but it felt really late to have dinner). Nana had to turn off the light and sit on the floor between the beds for me to go to sleep because I did not understand why I was in my “bed” if Nana was right there ready to talk and play with me! James fell asleep at the same time I did. Chasney and Mommy went and saw “Race to Witch Mountain.” They liked the movie and had a fun time. Chasney did see an ex-boyfriend there, but seemed to be okay about it.

It was another rough night of sleep for Mommy and me this time. My cough got worse, not better, the room was dry and hot and having 5 people in a room sleeping can be tough for a light sleeper like Mommy.

The next day James woke up feeling much better! Mommy and Chasney woke up tired and I woke up with my cough, but otherwise okay. I don’t remember how Nana was, but she seemed fine to me. It was Monday morning and the weather was better. We drove “down memory lane” and went past Nana’s parents’ house (Papaw and Mamaw is what Mommy called them), went past Papaw’s old shop, drove through downtown Murray, took some pictures, went to the cemetery to visit Mamaw’s grave site, went to the Murray State bookstore, went to Wal-Mart (again), went to a park to play, then picked up lunch at Taco Bell. Wow, it was a lot of activity! Oh, did I mention that I was up at 7 am so we were out of the hotel by 8? That might explain our ability to do all of those things before lunch. I had a really good time at the park, and Chasney and James are great with me! They helped me climb on the jungle gym and slide down the slides. Mommy and James played a quick, fun game of tag.

After lunch I took a nap. Mommy stayed in the room, checked some email and took a little nap too. Nana, James and Chasney went to the pool. Both Chasney and James had friends come visit them at the pool and they played and played. I bet they played with the fun small ball too. When I woke up, Mommy and I went to the pool too! Chasney’s friend left and she was sleeping on one of the chairs. James and his friends were in the pool so Mommy and I joined them for more splashing and playing and jumping and throwing and catching.

This was our last visit to the pool. Chasney and Mommy had already determined that it would be more fun for Chasney and James to go home after dinner so they could sleep in the next day and not get up so early when Mommy, Nana and I had to get on the road to home. We went to the Sirloin Corral for dinner, it’s a buffet-style restaurant that has so many different types of food, you could eat for hours. Since I like variety, it worked out well for me. I can’t even tell you everything I ate but I tried lots of new things.

After dinner it was time to drop Chasney and James off at their house and head back to the hotel for me to go to bed. I had such a good time with them, I was sad to say goodbye. I hope to see them again soon!

The next morning we got up early (as usual), got the van all packed and headed out! I am not sure if you know this, but James is sometimes forgetful and left his toothbrush and a few other necessities at the hotel. Luckily, one of his friend’s mom worked at the hotel and returned the items. This may not sound like a big deal, but remember it for later. When we were packing (ok, Mommy was packing) the van, she found another bag of James’ items, but these we just brought home with us. We stopped briefly to visit with Aunt Ruth on the way out of town. We told her beforehand that we had already eaten breakfast and could only stay for a minute to make sure that she did not fix us something again. She just is not feeling well, can’t get around very well and should not be serving us. But, that is always how she has been and we appreciate that she is such a great hostess.

After all of this we were on our way home! We only stopped a few times, one of them to have another Subway footlong for lunch. After we got home, Mommy was really glad not to eat out for awhile. We had an early dinner with Daddy, then Nana left to go see her puppies and kitty (Gizmo, Lilly and Sophie) and I went to bed. Mommy, of course, had the van and all bags unloaded before dinner. The luggage was put away and you would have never known that we were on a trip. This is just how it works with Mommy. That night, Chasney called and said she needed to talk to Mommy. When Mommy called back, Chasney asked if James had left his bag of Mountain Dew soda in the van (which he had). James had been accusing his family in Kentucky of taking his Mountain Dew! I don’t know what the morale of the story is, but you should probably be careful blaming other people for things.

March 28, 2009 (Murray Kentucky)

The next morning (Saturday), Nana was at my house when I woke up! I was surprised to see her but kicked my legs with excitement. In case I have not told you, I kick my legs when I am excited. Then she, Mommy and I got into the “SUV” (memory test, did you remember that this is our min-van?). We were in the van for a long time, going to Murray Kentucky to see Aunt Ruth (Nana’s aunt who actually lives in Gilbertsville, but it is close to Murray), my cousins Chansey and James and my Aunt Jackie and Uncle Mike (who live in Memphis but came to Murray to see us).

Do you remember when the big ice storm came through back in January? Well, this area of Kentucky got hit with so much ice that it looks like a tornado went through it. Nana and Mommy were in awe of the number of trees that were snapped in half or pulled completely out of the ground. When Nana is surprised about something she says “jeesh” with a sigh. You cannot imagine how many times Nana said that because the ice storm damage started north of Louisville and went all the way to Murray. We remember seeing pictures on the TV, but there is really nothing like seeing it in person (and having Nana go “jeesh” for several hours).

Mommy, Nana and I stopped for a few minutes to visit with Aunt Ruth. She is not feeling very well right now because her back hurts, I think it hurts even worse than Daddy’s. That must be a whole bunch. She was glad to see us and I had a good time playing with the Chinese checkers at her house. There is something else about visiting Aunt Ruth, and this goes back to when Nana was little. Aunt Ruth feeds you. It does not matter what time it is, it does not matter if you have eaten or will be eating later, she feeds you. So, for our afternoon snack we had fried chicken, homemade cole slaw and homemade potato salad. After our visit with Aunt Ruth, we headed to the Baymont Inn & Suites, the hotel we were staying at in Murray. Uncle Mike and Aunt Jackie arrived shortly after we did and my cousins Chasney and James came over too. None of them had just had a “snack” with Aunt Ruth so we went to dinner. We went to a place called “Tom’s Pizza” that has been in business since the 1960s. I don’t know when that was but there were pictures on the wall that were in black and white so it must have been before people saw in color. It was delicious pizza (that comment was from Mommy, I ate my fruit) and I got to walk around the restaurant after I was finished. I love to walk around and have everyone smile at me as I go. Mommy learned to dress me in pink so that no one would mistake me as a boy when I take my walks. After dinner we went to our first of 4 visits to Wal-Mart. We bought drinks and snacks and Aunt Jackie bought me a stuffed lamb (I called “Lamb”) that is almost as big as I am.

Mommy had my pack-n-play all set up in the hotel room so after dinner, I went to bed. Mike and Jackie had the room next to us so Mommy took the monitor everyone else went next door to hang out while I slept. Uncle Bubba was really into a movie so James, Jackie, Chasney and I went to the pool for a while. After that it was time for sleep. In theory. Mommy is a light sleeper and since Nana broke her nose in her fall, she snores a bit. And Mommy’s nose was really stuffy and she could not breathe very well. And I was coughing some. So, Mommy did not sleep very much that night. Do you remember from all of my stories that Mommy does not do well without sleep?

March 27, 2009

I still did not feel 100% but it was just the cough and the runny nose I have had for ages (I guess not really ages, but months, which seems like ages to a person who still counts her age in months). I went to the doctor (again!) on Friday to see my primary doctor (Dr. Ringel) to make sure that I was in good shape before my trip. At this point, I did not know I was going on a trip, I just knew that I was at the doctor again and I did not like it one bit. Dr. Ringel said that I was doing fine and sometimes it takes a long time to get over pneumonia. Could she not tell Mommy and Daddy this over the phone?

March 22, 2009

That Tuesday was St. Patrick’s Day, which really did not seem like anything different to me. The only thing I noticed is that Mommy took the St. Patrick’s Day decorations down. Usually on important holidays I see my grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins and usually get gifts. I don’t think I like this St. Patrick’s Day holiday if neither of those things happen.

At this point we thought I was on the mend. I went back to the doctor on Wednesday (March 18). The doctor said that everything looked good. The next day, though, Mommy got a call from work saying that I was not myself. She actually talked to the teachers a couple of times checking on me. Daddy picked me up and I was not myself. You know the next part, I went to the doctor. I was sick again. This time it was different though. The doctor said I was not breathing well enough and I needed a breathing treatment. I think the better name for this is “screaming treatment.” The whole experience caught Mommy and Daddy off-guard. The nurse brought in a big plastic thing with a mask and a tube. She mixed some medicine together, gave the mask to Mommy and said to hold the mask against my face for 5 minutes and she would be back. Do you remember back to the days when Mommy had to do the stretches with me and I did not like them at all and cried and cried? That was nothing compared to this. At one point someone opened the door because they heard the screaming down the hall. After the 5 minutes were over, they checked my oxygen again and it was better, which was good but concerning because it meant I might have asthma. I don’t know what asthma is but if it has anything to do with the “screaming treatments” then I don’t want to have it. I did not get any medicine from that doctor and after being so upset, I went home and went to sleep. I was still coughing, as I have been for what seems like the entire winter. Because I felt a bit better, I did go to school on Friday.

We had a pretty fun weekend after that. Most Saturday mornings I help Mommy and Daddy with the laundry. I am a very good helper with the laundry. I like to pick up the clothes from the floor and put them in the washer or the dryer. I am not particular about which clothes go into which door at this point. Then I like to shut the door. It doesn’t matter how much is in the door when I shut it either. After we have loaded the machines, I like to push all of the buttons over and over again. Luckily, they have this thing called the “child lock” that Mommy and Daddy turn on so I can’t change the cycle in the middle of washing or drying.

On Sunday we went to the zoo! It was a nice, warm, spring day, a perfect day for the zoo. I love the zoo. I loved to see the animals that I look at in books. My new favorite book is “Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?” and I got to see a real live polar bear. I could not touch them but boy was I close. I also saw the giraffes, the elephants, the flamingos and even the zebras. We did not go into the reptile house, Mommy does not like the reptile house so I might need to go there with someone else. The thing I loved the most was the carousel. I sat on the camel that did not go up and down the first time and the horse that did not go up and down the second time. It went round and round and by the end I was getting really good at waving to Daddy who was watching from the side. Mommy stood next to me and helped me know when it was time to wave and made sure that I did not fall off of course! I was sad when I could not ride anymore and the zoo closed.

March 15, 2009

You know how I told you that I was sick? I went to the doctor that night and the doctor wanted me to get a chest x-ray and a blood test. Because I was feeling much better by then and I really hated the chest x-ray I had in January, the doctor said that we could wait until the next day…You know what happened then? I woke up with a fever of 103.5 degrees! Needless to say, I got the chest x-ray and blood test. Daddy took the morning shift again so he had to take me to get the “procedures.” But don’t worry, when Mommy got home in the afternoon, she had to take me to the doctor after the results came back. The doctor suspected that I had pneumonia. I got a prescription and Mommy and I went home. Even after the first dose of the medicine I started feeling better. I woke up the next morning without a fever but still I stayed home on Wednesday. Mommy took the morning shift. Guess what we did? We ran a few errands. I love to shop, I really perked up after our errands. I took a really good nap and when I woke up Daddy was home. I was back to myself by then and ready to get back to school! Even though Daddy and Mommy are great people and relatively fun, they are not nearly as entertaining as my teachers and my friends as school.

I went back to school on Thursday feeling myself again. On Saturday we went to see Grandma and Papa too. It was a really fun, as always. I got to watch a movie on the way (I call it a “video” and can say it pretty well if I don’t say so myself. I am beginning to say so myself quite a bit too!). When we got there after I ate a good lunch, I took a long nap! I never take a good nap at Grandma and Papa’s because I am so excited to see them. That afternoon we went to Costco, like we always do. After that we made a special trip to one of the apartment buildings that Grandma and Papa own. I loved running around in the rooms and open all of the doors. I am not afraid of stairs either, so Daddy and Mommy had to be especially careful as I run right to them. After that fun, we went back to Grandma and Papa’s for dinner and then bed for me. I went to bed and actually went to sleep. I don’t know if you remember, but I have a hard time sleeping at Grandma and Papa’s because I don’t want to miss any of the fun. Mommy, Daddy, Grandma and Papa watched a funny movie called “Mama Mia” where people ran around singing all over a beautiful island. Mommy and Daddy found out that Grandma’s favorite band is Abba. It’s wild the things you learn when you don’t expect it. Back to me. I slept well that night and woke up in good spirits. We had a good breakfast then went to the mall. We did not go there to shop but to walk. I mainly rode in my stroller, which I love. You know what it reminded me of? It reminded me of the time when Mommy and I were home together. Except she and I did not walk at the mall, we walked outside in our neighborhood. It was really fun walking at the mall though. It was not very crowded (Grandma said there are many more people there on the weekdays).
