October 30, 2009

On the way home from our trip, we learned that my great-grandmother Betty passed away. She was 93 years old and lived a long life. Papaw, Uncle Robbie, Uncle David and Aunt Jeannie were all with her when she passed away, which I am sure she appreciated. We were on our way home from Hilton Head, so we could not get there in time. Aunt Shell lives in Florida, so she could not be there either. But later that week (Thursday), Aunt Shell flew into Dayton and she, Mommy and I drove to Brockway, Pennsylvania to the funeral. Uncle David, Uncle Robbie and Aunt Jeannie caravanned together and met us there. Papaw was already there making the funeral arrangements.

Are you wondering where Daddy was? He had to go on a business trip and flew to Dallas, Texas on Thursday. We went in opposite directions!

I was a very good girl on the trip to Grandma Betty’s funeral. We arrived very late at night and had to get up pretty early the next morning. We were at the funeral home from 9:30 am until 2:45 pm and I even took my nap there. I was quite amused by the drinking fountain which kept me busy for much of the day. I ran around from room to room and was a nice diversion for everyone. I did talk the entire time Mommy said a few words about Grandma Betty, but no one seemed to mind and Mommy is used to me talking when she is trying to tell a story. Nana said that kids have an inherent need to talk over mothers and it will never stop. After the ceremony at the cemetery, we went back to Grandma Betty’s house. Some family came over later that night and we visited and laughed and played.

The next day was Halloween, so Mommy, Aunt Shell and I got up early so we could get home to trick-or-treat with Nana. I got to wake up Uncle David by staring directly into his face as he lay there on the couch. Boy was that funny! Then I rode on Uncle Robbie’s back and pretended he was a choo choo train. He made funny noises, just like a train.
