Something weird going on - January 2011

At dinner with Nana for Mama’s birthday, I said that I wanted to be a big sister. Now, I am 3 and I don’t know what this really means. But, Daddy, Mama and Nana all said, ok, you can be a big sister. They often say yes to me, so I was not completely surprised.

Another night I said that I loved babies and wanted to have a baby. Daddy and Mama both said, ok. Again, they often say yes to me so I did not notice.

Mama seemed really tired this winter. She took naps at the same time I did, went to bed at the same time I did and started wearing different clothes. But, Mama likes to nap, it’s winter and dark too so maybe that is just when you go to bed in the winter, and she does sometimes buys new clothes.

Then one night in January we were sitting on the couch after dinner and Mama said, “Abigail, we want to tell you something.” When they start conversations like this, they are usually preparing me for something that I will not like, so I was not so sure. Then Mama said that she had a baby in her belly and that I was going to be a big sister. I immediately went over and starting pushing on her belly to find the baby (I could not find it). Mama suggested that I was pushing too hard and then said we could not see the baby. I asked why the baby did not come out now. Mama said that the baby is only the size of an apple (Daddy went and got an apple) and that it needed to go to be the size of my baby doll (Baby, as we already established). I looked back and forth between the apple and Baby a few times. Then I asked, “can I have the apple for snack.” End of conversation. The next morning Daddy asked me if I remembered what we talked about the night before. We talked about many things the night before, how is a girl to remember every detail? End of conversation.

I don’t understand why we don’t know if it’s a baby brother or sister. I want to be a big sister, and that is most important to me. We got a heart beat monitor for home and every night we listen to the heartbeat. I am mainly concerned with putting the gel on the handle. I lose interest when the heartbeat starts.
